From the 1960s through the early '80s, the hippie movement made transformational change in America. Suddenly long hair, smoking weed, and totally ignoring your responsibilities was cool.
Hippie communes took the philosophy to its extreme: living off the land as a total community. Until, of course, members realized that humanity created modern luxuries for a reason.
